Cardiovascular
The cardiovascular system is comprised of the heart, blood, and blood vessels. Blood is circulated through the blood vessels by the heart, which acts as a pump, and delivers oxygen and nutrients throughout the entire body. Blood also functions to remove waste products from our body. Diseases of the cardiovascular system fall under two categories: diseases of the heart (cardio) and diseases of the blood vessels (vascular). Some diseases of the heart include: Coronary Heart Disease, Congenital Heart Disease, and Congestive Heart Failure. Some of the diseases associated with the blood vessels include: Atherosclerosis (Hardening of the arteries), Hypertension (High blood pressure), stroke, aneurysm, and varicose veins. Stress, unhealthy lifestyle, and poor nutrition can wreak havoc on our cardiovascular systems. Blood is the fluid of life, and it is critical to keep it clean and pure. It is also crucial for the circulatory system to run efficiently while performing the function of delivering nutrients to the body, as well as carrying off waste materials. The heart is best described as our “life pump”, and when it is not properly nourished it can suffer a malfunction. It is a vital part of health to keep the cardiovascular system performing at its optimum level.
