Our immune system has many functions. Its primary function is to protect the body against infection and the development of cancer. The immune system has many components.  Our skin is our first line of defense against germs; it is impermeable to bacteria and viruses. The epidermis layer of the skin contains special cells that fight germs. In addition, the skin also secretes antibacterial substances to combat germs. Once inside the body, a germ deals with the immune system at a different level. The major components of the immune system include: lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, organs (thymus, spleen, tonsils and appendix), white blood cells, bone marrow, antibodies and other specialized cells. All of the components of the immune system need to work together in order to function properly. If any of the organs have been removed, the immune system then needs to work harder to maintain proper immune function.
There is a correlation between our emotions and our immune system. If we are happy, our immune system generally functions efficiently. When we are depressed, our immune system is depressed. Stress plays a large part in depressing our immune system; research shows that stress contributes to lower white blood cell count thus leading to more of a chance of infection.Â
Factors that can lead to a weakened immune system is: smoking,  poor diet especially excess consumption of sugar and alcohol, inadequate sleep, lack of exercise, nutrient deficiency, and high cholesterol levels. Many health problems stem from a weakened immune system. If you are prone to catching colds and viruses frequently, have allergies, or Candida Albicans, you are probably suffering from a suppressed immune system. Reevaluate your lifestyle, make changes, rebuild and support yourself with all natural health supplements.
