The prostate is a small gland located near the bladder in men. It is common for a man’s prostate to enlarge, as he grows older. As the prostate enlarges, it presses on the urethra, restricting the flow of urine: the bladder becomes thicker and irritated, causing it to contract even with only small amounts of urine contained, which leads to urination that is more frequent. The bladder weakens and loses the ability to empty itself and urine remains in the bladder. This can lead to bladder infections. Typical symptoms include: frequent urination at night, feeling the urge to urinate with little success or just trickling without a steady flow, and painful urination.
Men should begin receiving routine physical exams once they reach the age of 50, or sooner if prostate cancer runs in the family. An enlarged prostate does not necessarily mean you have cancer. Many all natural health supplements are very effective in reducing the swelling of the prostate, supporting the urinary tract and easing some of the symptoms, which may aid in preventing prostate cancer.
